(Comments by, and Copyright ©2003, Yvonne Deloach: have had e-mails on this group of Cooks as being gypsies that entered South Carolina through Beaufort ports. They being gator trappers and such, They did settled along swamp area and they were hunters, gators and such. But have not got the proof or documentation to prove this theory. )
Descendants of John Cook
Generation No. 1
1. John1 Cook was born 1747 in S.C., and died 1835 in Prince Williams Parish, SC. He married Unknown.
Notes for John Cook: John Cook was a Revolutionary War soldier, revealed in Pension Application at the National Archives, Washington, DC. John Cook was counted among the inhabitants of Prince Williams Parish of the Beaufort Judicial District in the 1800 - 1830 Federal Censuses. Judging from the census it would appear his sons made their homes near him. His sons would be Gadi, Leavie, Thomas and William Cook. John Cook first applied for his pension in Charleston, SC. The Certificate was sent to Col. C. J. Colcock of Hickory Hill, SC. For some reason maybe due to burning and plunder of the war documents had been lost or misplaced so he traveled to Coosawatchie in April 1824 for reinstatement, in this application it states that John Cook served in the Second Continental Line, Colonel Isaac Mott's Company. In some Census lists it does not state John Cook as living in this area, but in his Power of attorney due to his reinstatement it is stated that He was a resident of South Carolina for 20 years and was native born South Carolinian. His sons state this also according to census records.
